A blind, 11-year-old Jack Russell Terrier named Scout is the best friend and traveling companion of Cindy Sundgren, of El Dorado, Kan. Sundgren participates in horse shows across the country, and always brings Scout along with her.
But on Sunday morning, when Sundgren left her truck’s engine running while she checked out of a La Quinta Inn in Norman, Okla., a thief jumped in and drove off.
“The first thing I thought of was, ‘My dog is in there,’” Sundgren told News9.com. “It happened very fast. We ran out the door, and that thing was going 60 miles an hour outta here.”
Her heart broken, Sundgren posted Scout’s photo on Facebook and hoped for the best.
As she was being interviewed by KFOR-TV Sunday afternoon, Sundgren was told that Scout had been found. The dog had been dumped at an apartment complex about two miles from the hotel, where resident Crystal Torres took her in after Scout “had been sitting in one spot for hours in the cold,” KFOR-TV reported.
Torres posted Scout’s picture on Facebook after she brought her in. “Twenty-five minutes later, I’m getting messages,” she told CBS 5.
The KFOR-TV news crew tagged along with Sundgren as she went to retrieve Scout.
“I cannot tell you how happy we are to find her,” Sungren said, after she ran up the apartment’s stairs and scooped Scout into her arms. “She’s a very special dog and she’s irreplaceable.”
Her truck is still missing, but Sungren said that’s okay. She will be sending Torres a nice reward – and she probably won’t be letting Scout out of her sight again.
